Design Philosophy
What can design influence?
Design is all around us. Everything that is created is designed, be it deliberate or not. Design can be applied at various points on the spectrum of the material to the immaterial.
Although materialised design can be touched and admired, we believe that design which is (partly) immaterial creates true impact. That is why we focus on applying service design and system design to complex societal problems.
We see design as an ACT to impact society positively.
Using different lenses
Design uses creative methods to unpack and reframe complex problems in order to generate innovative, people-focused solutions.
We help solve complex problems by designing sets of human experiences through the system. We zoom between the individual, the cohorts of individuals and the whole system. Solutions range from the personal to the collective, from products & services to processes & policies.
Social Design
We apply design to problems in the public domain as well as in care, health and well-being. These domains and the problems they encounter, are often complex, open and dynamic. On top of that, there are multiple stakeholders involved with each their unique view and perspective of the problem. We humanise complexity and emphasise on stakeholder engagement to allow transitions within systems. We work with decision makers as well as operational staff to help innovate the services and systems in which they operate
Process
For each project we are flexible in our proces; we adjust our proces to match our clients needs and design challenge. We start with establishing clear intent; creating the argument for change from different perspectives within the system.
We are known for our a highly collaborative design process which involves different levels of stakeholders throughout the whole design project. We energise organisations towards common visions and goals. We dare to test and iterate. We create possibilities and options, balancing people, planet, profit.
Behaviour change
To create lasting impact we design for behaviour change. We design behaviours for sets of individuals to influence lifestyles and create healthy habits but also use behaviour change mechanisms in systemic solutions.
We have developed a range of tools that use the latest psychology insights to map and understand behaviour mechanics, to create strategies and tactics and to apply ‘mental-shortcuts’ (heuristics) to solutions.
